The data is based on announcements of planned reductions and/or closings in Virginia by basic companies (manufacturers and non manufacturers with a substantial customer base outside the state). Information shown here can be used for a variety of reasons including identifying available workers in an area. Closings/reductions reflect internal descisions of business and may not reflect economic conditions or the quality of the work being performed there.

Information is gathered from the Virginia Economic Development Partnership's allies at state, regional, and local levels, as well as from published sources, Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN Act) notices, and Partnership staff. Rules for documentation of announcements were established to ensure consistency of reported data. All information is obtained on a voluntary basis and no claim is made that the data are complete.
